Would Mars opposite Saturn give someone a stern approach or appearance?
I long ago read that this aspect (actually I believe it was the conjunction of Mars and Saturn) often causes one to feel like they have one foot on the accelerator (Mars) and one on the brake (Saturn) at the same time. Sorry don't remember the book but the analogy is there. Mars always wants action. Saturn always restricts. And as this is an opposition it requires another person (2) involved. Therefore this can manifest in many ways. One person always starting something (Mars) and then the other person (Saturn) says no and then there is a disagreement or the Saturn one can be cold and hard and the Mars one will be frustrated because their energy is restrained and Mars does not like that. Mars could often instigate with this opposition because they are doing their best to override the one that is so damn limiting on their energy. Mars has direction, maybe not a clear destination, but they want action and they want it now! Saturn reminds Mars to always think through things carefully before you act and accept full personal responsibility for their actions and that is so inherently impossible for Mars to do. It is almost like the Father controlling their Son's actions and never quite giving full permission to to learn by making mistakes because Father (darn it anyway) has the wisdom to know when energy is mis-directed. Son leaves Father and makes many mistakes because the wisdom just isn't there to assist their direction and action. They are so inherently different. This is when astrology can be so helpful to yourself and to others that you have to deal with either willingly or unwillingly. And the joy principle that you refer to is entirely possible with this aspect. When one is constantly robbing another ones need for freedom and the desire to move and explore ones desire (Saturn) which does requires energy and desire (Mars) that could rob one of their joy. Again, these two planets are the antithesis of each other, Movement vs Thought. Static vs Momentum Cold vs Warm Control vs Impulse This is one tough cookie to overcome. But it must be because Saturn always demands personal responsibility. Hope this is helpful. Good luck and Bless you.
